Beschrijving
The book presents selections from Gzi-brjid (“The Treasury of the Ways”), a foundational text of the Tibetan Bön tradition, edited and translated by David L. Snellgrove. It offers insight into the nine successive “ways” or stages of spiritual practice described in the text, tracing a path from preliminary devotion and purification to advanced meditation and realization. Throughout the work, themes of discipline, transformation and the interplay of ritual, cosmology and inner experience are prominent. The practitioner is guided through methods of refuge, ethical purification, deity-meditation, yogic control of subtle energies and finally to non-conceptual insight. By giving English readers access to these classical Bön materials, the book opens a window into a rich spiritual tradition distinct from mainstream Tibetan Buddhism. Finally, the volume serves both as a scholarly resource and as a contemplative text: it is annotated and contextualized so that its ancient imagery and nomenclature become comprehensible. At the same time, the text retains its power as a practical roadmap for serious spiritual practitioners and students of Tibetan religion and culture. In short, the book is both an academic contribution and a guide to practice within the Bön-tradition.
